Receiver operating characteristic

This applet demonstrates how the proportion of true and false positives and negatives, predictive values, and specificities vary with four critical parameters of the situation being examined. This has implications for interpreting clinical laboratory investigations, designing new tests, interpreting results in scientific papers, designing population screening programmes, Bayesian reasoning and decision making, (which includes basic clinical reasoning, history taking, and interpreting clinical signs) the psychology of categorisation and Hebbian neural network learning, and not least in passing exams like PopSci.
